Sage Advice

I saw this on a friend's blog and had to "borrow" it....

The Moshers have a new toy

Not to put anyone into shock, but Dave sold his fishing boat. Yep, the Grady is going to be handed over to it's new owner tomorrow. With the costs of gas going up, and with the lack of time that either Dave or Phil(Dave's boat partner and our closest friend) has to use the boat, the boys decided to put it on Craigslist and see what happened. This has actually been in the works for a while, but tomorrow is the big day. Close your eyes and have a moment of silence for the boat named 'Bout Damn Time.

My man can't be without a boat of any kind for very long, so last week we bought a ski boat. Dave is partial to Ski Nautiques, so we are now proud owners of a new baby. I know NOTHING about boats, so I just say what colors I like and try to do as I'm told when on the boat, but the kids have fallen in love. Within 5 minutes of the first ride on Lake Almanor last Friday, Haley and Jason were screaming happily at the top of their lungs and expressing their love of the new boat. Never did we get that reaction on the Grady....poor dad. Although when the fresh fish or crab were on the table, we all sang it's praises and praises to the "Fish Whisperer" also known as Dave.

Haley now thinks she's a wakeboarder, so I had to post some pics. We were out on Berryessa yesterday, and thank goodness other people have cameras, because I am incapable of bringing mine ANYWHERE when I really should have it. So here is Haley on the wakeboard:

Jason gets up right away, but doesn't stay up long. The kid is so weightless he has a hard time holding himself down....needs more meat on his bones, that one does.

And check out the old man....he still has it! The wife is not so great at the driving though, so Dave's wakeboarding skills are especially impressive considering what he had to work with.

Yes, it's a bit blurry but that is most likely due to the aforementioned wife's poor driving skills which threw off the photographer. I'll get it before too long.....

Boy Turns 8!!

Yes, our little boy is now 8 years old! He got a cool bike for his birthday, an Indiana Jones themed birthday party with his friends, and a night at the Giants game on his birthday itself. Jason is a HUGE baseball fan and this was a highlight for him.

And because it was his 8th birthday, we also had a baptism the following weekend. It was nice to have family around as well, especially since our family is kind of on the small side. Nana Betty was there, Nana Steph and Papa Ken, Uncle Dennis and Aunt Joleen, and even cousins! Erik, Lisa, Dylan, Brock and Kaden were there as well, and we had such a good time. At the baptism itself, I became an emotional wreck as I watched Jason get baptized by his daddy, and then confirmed. I'm usually not much of a crier, but I have become the "family crier" at these types of events. Apparently, someone had to fill my dad's shoes, because this was usually his specialty.

The tears came for a couple of reasons....first of all, I seem to have a keen sense when we have our departed family members in attendance at these types of things. I VERY strongly felt my father there, as well as both of Jason's uncles, my brother Bobby and Dave's brother Bobby. I know that nothing in heaven or on earth would keep my father from an event like this, and he was definitely there. The second reason I turned into a human faucet was during Jason's confirmation. When I looked up and saw all those good men standing around my son, I was so moved and so very grateful for the wonderful men in his life. He has an amazing father, and extraordinary grandfathers who love him and are excellent models of manhood that he can emulate. Jason has his uncle and his cousins who are also exceptional men, and men who can give him glimpses of my father. The other men there were worthy priesthood holders who are not just good men, but great men who can serve as examples for Jason. It truly does take a village to raise a child, and I am so grateful for all the wonderful influences in my children's lives.
